Claudia Mika

Founder and CEO, Temos International Healthcare Accreditation

Dr. Claudia Mika is the Founder and CEO of Temos International Healthcare Accreditation, a German-based international accreditation body that was founded in 2010 as a spin-off of a European research project.

Dr. Mika brings years of dedication to developing accreditation standards and improving the Temos accreditation programs, assessing hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, reproductive care centers, and dental clinics worldwide. Having worked globally with healthcare providers, she has the first-hand experience in building quality management systems as well as risk management programs from Brazil to the Philippines. With her team of experts in clinical and non-clinical services, Dr. Mika has created accreditation programs for hospitals and clinics that cater to domestic and international patients across a wide spectrum of healthcare disciplines. She actively participates in the accreditation process, spending time with clients to share her years of experience with the Continuous Quality Improvement process that is at the heart of successful accreditation.

Her commitment to quality outcomes, governance and leadership, patient safety, risk reduction, and the patient experience as well as her track record for excellence and innovation is mirrored by the accreditation standards; always aiming at adding value for the users of the standards.

Between 1994 and 2010, Dr. Mika gained extensive experience in the management of international projects, when she took up different positions at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), a German governmental research organization. She planned, organized and evaluated international projects e.g., in Moscow, Russia, as a member of the “Head Down Tilt Study Group”. She further worked in space physiology projects like MIR’97 including the quality management and monitoring of standardized procedures for the astronauts on board. In 2002, Dr. Mika received the “Young Researcher Award” of the European Space Agency. She held various positions at the Institutes of Aerospace Medicine, both at DLR in Cologne and at the Technical University of Aachen, where Dr. Mika also worked in the Clinic of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.

Dr. Mika is regularly invited to international Conferences and has trained a vast number of people on five continents as part of her Temos Academy activities. She held guest lectureships at PUCRS University in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and at the University Hospital in Aachen, Germany. She advises different associations and governmental institutions regarding quality-related topics, patient experience and risk management. She consulted the Turkish Ministry of Health by developing a guideline on quality assurance in international patient management. She is the Vice Chairwoman of the Diplomatic Council Healthcare Forum and has been giving workshops for several embassies worldwide.

She supported the 2018 Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Medical Tourism Conference as a member of the Scientific Board and has been a judge for the International Medical Travel Awards since 2013. In 2017, Dr. Mika was awarded the Dr. Sanjiv Malik Lifetime Award.

In 2019, Dr. Mika successfully spearheaded the rigorous process of submitting Temos standards for accreditation by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua now known as IEEA) to firmly cement Temos’ place among the world’s elite international accreditation organizations. In 2020, Dr. Mika developed together with her expert team a set of standards to help healthcare organizations worldwide to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission in healthcare settings.

Since January 2021 Dr. Mika has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Fertility Society and also chairs the society’s Certification Committee.
