Dato’ Dr Jacob Thomas, a medical doctor, has vast experience in hospital management, having served in various capacities at the Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care, including as the Executive Director of their Flagship Hospital, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) for 9 years from 1998 till 2006. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care (RSDHC) Group, in addition to serving as the Group Medical Advisor of its six hospitals in Malaysia and Indonesia and recently a Day Surgery Centre in Hong Kong. RSDHC is a leading tertiary care medical group in the region, reputed for its quality medical care and service excellence.

Dr Jacob Thomas is currently a past President of the Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM) after having held the post of President from 2008 till 2018. He was recently appointed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as the Champion (Head) of the Private Healthcare Productivity Nexus under the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), which seeks to improve the productivity of the private healthcare sector in Malaysia. This also includes the must-awaited enhanced Public-Private Partnership.

He serves as a Councilor of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), which is an accredited member of ISQua. He is, since 2014, a Board Member of the Joint Commission International (JCI) based in Chicago. Since January 2021, he has been appointed as the Chair of this prestigious Board. Dr Thomas today works closely with Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) and various Government agencies and NGOs to promote Malaysian Healthcare both locally and internationally.

Dr Jacob Thomas is today a much sort after speaker at many conferences and seminars both locally and Internationally. He also sits on the Editorial Board of many Healthcare Magazines and assists as an advisor and judges for regional Healthcare Conferences and Awards.

Recently, Dato Dr. Jacob Thomas was conferred the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award for Healthcare by Global Health & Travel. This award is a testament to his contribution to the development of healthcare regionally.
